Sustainability
At Mbizi Safaris, sustainability is at the core of our mission. We are dedicated to preserving the natural beauty and biodiversity of Zambias forests while providing the highest quality products for our clients. To interfere as little as possible on the natural wildlife we have incorporated a well functioning selective harvesting plan. Mbizi farm is 17.500 ha and every tree harvested is selected manually and given a specific numer to be able to trace it throughout the whole process. Only a limited number of trees are harvested and each area is selectively re harvested only every 30 years.
In 2015 the farm in Zambia was bought by two Swedes, Michael de Gre-Dejestam and Lennart Packendorff. Soon it was discovered the large quantity of valuable hardwood in the forest areas of the property. Together with the authorities, a forest management plan was made, which includes sustainable harvesting, replanting and further operations. Our next aim was then to get approved for the FSC® certification. FSC® stands for Forest Stewardship Council®, an international, non governmental organisation dedicated to promoting responsible management of the worlds forest. (FSC®, 2025) Since its foundation in 1994, FSC® has grown to become the worlds most respected and widespread forest certification system. Mbizi Safaris is the only foresty business in Zambia to obtain a FSC® certification, something we are highly proud of. Mbizi Wood has also obtained a FSC® certification, making the chain undisrupted. The FSC® certification showcases we comply with the highest social and environmental standards on the market.
